How to NOT winter-proof your old windows

December 8th, 2011
by vanessa

Lately we have been spoiled by the unseasonably warm weather here in Atlanta. Yesterday I was shopping for green sprinkles and chocolate eggnog in my Flip-Flops and Daisy Dukes, and I paused to asked myself, is it really December, but more importantly, am I too old to be wearing Daisy Dukes?

Nevertheless, today a cold front has moved in *tisk* tisk* and so it is finally time, time to break out the ghetto-fabulous-double-pain-plastic-shrink-wrap for my single pane, pain-in-the-a**-windows.

In the spirit of the Holidays I thought it would be fun to take you through the tedious tradition of winter-proofing my delightful, and slightly breezy, Mid-Century Modern Home (did I mention I have original, single-PAIN-aluminum-windows?)

Step #1  Locate the Biggest wall of windows where the drafty exterior breeze is coming from.

Step #2 Layout all the tools you will need to shrink wrap your drafty window project: Gin, Ginger Ale, Ice, scissors and some other stuff.

Step #3 Pour equal parts of the Gin and Ginger Ale into the chilled glass that contains ice. Test to make sure they are of the highest quality.

Step #4 Double check the materials, sometimes the consistency might be weak and more Gin should be added liberally.

Step #5 Carefully adhere the double sided tape gently yet firmly around the window trim thing-a-ma-jiggy, takeing pre-kaution for excessive  pressing, this can cause panefull wood-chips in your fingers also known as splinters (the little bast**ds)

Step #6 Make sher  your sweet and tangee Bev-erig is within reaching distance… sometimes the drafty windows let in large Rodents or humans who steel tasty Bevrriges, so you must be cognesent of whare your icy cold Drink is at ALLL tims.

A very cool Mid-Century Modern Home featured in the AJC ;-)

November 2nd, 2011
by vanessa

So the other day I got a phone call from a guy who said he worked for the AJC, at first I thought he was going to try and sell me some kind of advertising package, but when he started explaining how he was a reporter who focused writing about personal residences for the AJC Homefinder section, my ears pricked up and my heart started beating fast. You see, I’ve always enjoyed getting attention, ever since I was an obnoxious, snot-nosed little kid I would do all kinds of morally wrong things just to get my mom’s attention. This is what happens when you are the only child for 8 years and then all of a sudden you get 2 younger siblings. So when the reporter/photographer asked if he could photograph my house and write a little blurb about my business and decor aesthetic I didn’t say “yes,”  I said: “ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY!” Then put the phone down and sprung into consecutive back-flipps.

Ok so now that my ego is over-inflated here are some pictures of my oh-so-fabulous Mid-Century Modern Home that I have tenderly renovated and decorated of the years. Thanks for reading ;-) For the full Article with all the Juicy Details CLICK HERE   ** Disclaimer:  Cheesy subtitles were taken from AJC Article.

Vanessa Reilly describes her interior design style as midcentury madness with a sprinkle of "Glamazon." She has filled the house with pieces that "make me happy," she says.

Reilly's experimental design -- and personality --is seen in areas such as the upstairs Hollywood-style bathroom.

“When I’m having a bad day, I will take it out on my house and re-¿arrange the furniture,” Vanessa Reilly says. “When I get the urge to move, which is about once a year, I will just call my painter instead."

The dining room features a 78-inch oval Saarinen marble dining table that Reilly said she drooled over for several years before buying it.

The kitchen is simple with a punchy green back splash and a big picture window that overlooks the backyard.

Reilly painted the bedroom walls a soft grey blue and kept the furnishings simple. Because of the big picture window she chose a low rise IKEA platform bed. The light birch finish of the bed matches the light wood ceilings.

The foyer has five skylights, an artist console with tiny drawers for storing paint, and a vintage Tomesode kimono.

Vanessa Reilly bought her Atlanta home in 2008. She originally hated the man-made berm in the front yard, but has grown to love it over the years. "The berm shields the home from the street, providing an abundance of privacy," she says.

Northcrest: Another Happy Home Owner!

July 9th, 2011
by vanessa

After multiple offers and multiple contracts falling though Evan and Rebecca finally found their NORTHCREST Dream Home!! They are the new LUCKY owners of 3685 Eaglerock Dr.

Have you been looking for a Mid-Century Modern Home in Atlanta but can’t find it? Have you heard of Northcrest? I know there is a lot of stigma with living “OTP” (outside the perimeter) but here is the thing: Northcrest isn’t “outside” it’s “at” the perimeter! and I can tell you from personal experience that  it  is easier to get to places in and around Atlanta from this location than most in-town locations where I’ve lived in the past!  With 285 and 85 so close you can be in Buckhead in 10 minutes and at the Perimeter Mall area in less than 15. Or if you need to shoot downtown for some IKEA shopping you can get there in 15 minutes!!

So stop getting all hung up on living ”INSIDE” the perimeter. In Northcrest you get more BANG for the BUCK, bigger yards, cool neighbors and an assortment of wildlife! Plus we have tiki bar at our swim club, WHAT OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD POOL HAS A TIKI BAR!?!?! Riddle me that!

Are you looking for a Mid-Century Modern Home??

ATOMIC RANCH on a FULL Basement!?!

This dynamic Mid-Century Modern Ranch is a sleeper. From the outside it looks quant and unassuming but the second you enter the open foyer you know this MCM Home has got all the right stuff. With it’s original pine tongue and groove ceilings and the new red oak wood floors make the color pallet rich, warm and extremely inviting! The kitchen has had a top-notch renovation. and features a 48″ professional gas range! (In my humble opinion) this home has one of the best floor-plans in Northcrest. There is a massive brick fireplace that divides the living / dining room from the kitchen and the oversized picture windows let in all the beauty of the homes natural surroundings. Don’t miss the media room downstairs as well as a totally renovated master suite with a jetted tub and mosaic glass tile! Do you have a bunch of stuff that you don’t need, but you can’t get rid of?  This house was designed for you with it’s never ending basement perfect for storing the christmas decor and 10 sets of china you’ll never use!! Perhaps entertaining is your thing… The double decker party deck that overlooks the sprawling backyard can hold up to 3 football teams and 3 grills.  All this wrapped up in a swanky Mid-Century Modern Design for only $292,000.
